Over 5 million Afghan students are in school today.
With approximately 150,000 teachers currently working in Afghanistan, the country faces a dire shortage of trained professionals in its schools.
To add to the problem, Afghanistan’s Ministry of Education reported that, as of 2012, 80% of current teachers have not completed a high school education.
In partnership with Sahar Education International, AAFF maintains a training center for Afghan teachers. To date, over 360 teachers have completed the two-year training program.
After completing the program and receiving their certification, many graduates return to teach in rural hometowns, where the teacher shortage is most strongly felt.
